About Abe Freelancers

About Abe freelancers

Our network brings together freelance communications specialists and community organizations. Abe freelancers is a social enterprise that aims to make the world a little nicer with assignment mediation in the social sector and as a network for freelancers. Thus, we help organizations in their social mission and, as freelancers, we help each other.

Our network

As a social enterprise, we bring freelance communications specialists and community organizations together in two ways: with assignment mediation and with our networking function. We focus on organizations with a social mission. Organizations that make the world a little more beautiful with their work and activities. From aid organizations, healthcare facilities, school communities to debate centers and theaters. These organizations can come to us when they are temporarily, and often immediately, looking for a rock-solid communications specialist. A specialist who speaks and knows the language and knowledge of their industry. All affiliated Abe freelancers are therefore selected and known to us. This is how we keep the reliability and quality of our network high.

We also form a tight network with each other as freelancers and like-minded people. Freelancers thus help each other so they are not alone. We exchange knowledge, tips and experiences. We do this, for example, with monthly online coffee updates where a freelancer gives an inside look at a community organization where he or she is currently working through us. We are also in close contact with each other and freelancers can learn from each other in various ways, for example through business coffee dates, peer review and courses.

Founding

Abe freelancers was founded in 2020 by
Nienke Toren
established. After working at aid organizations for several years, Nienke started working as a freelance journalist, press officer and communications specialist herself in 2017. As her network in the social sector continued to grow and, as a result, she herself was not always available for jobs, the idea of a network of freelancers was born. What began with a Linkedin call to like-minded people has now grown into a rich network of more than a hundred freelance communications specialists from across the Netherlands and abroad. As a freelance communications specialist in the social sector, Nienke uses her experience and knowledge to best help social organizations and freelancers with their communications issues.

This is us

Abe freelancers was founded by Nienke Toren. As her network of clients grew rapidly in recent years and she increasingly had to sell “no,” the idea for a network of freelancers was born. A network where clients from the social sector can go for reliable and good communication specialists, who have experience and affinity with social organizations and speak their language. And a network where freelancers, in turn, can go for great assignments with a social character and where they can go to exchange experiences with other freelancers, where they can learn from each other, where they can, for example, get tips from each other on how to run a good administration and where they get a fair price for their work. Therefore, in the spring of 2020, Abe freelancers was born. Abe freelancers brings freelance communications specialists and community organizations together.

For more than 40 years, Lieuwe worked in the cultural sector. Lieuwe stood at the cradle of the cultural hub in southwestern Friesland at a time when other music schools and arts centers were toppling. Throughout his life, Lieuwe has always worked hard to help others see the value of art and culture. In 2018, he retired as director of Cultuur Kwartier Sneek, which includes Theater Sneek, Kunstencentrum Atrium and Poppodium Bolwerk and attracts more than 80,000 visitors annually. Since his farewell in Sneek, Lieuwe has focused on things other than culture. For example, he works as a peer auditor at CBCT, the certification organization for libraries, culture and language. He also does interim management jobs with cultural organizations.
